Deeper Learning Outcomes

The four deeper learning outcomes – self-understanding, knowledge, competency, and connection – help us contribute to others’ lives and to the world in meaningful and fulfilling ways. They’re what we need to succeed all throughout our lifetimes, so why should schools focus on anything less?

Self-Understanding

Understanding who you are, what you’re capable of, how you impact and fit into others’ lives and the world, and how you can make a difference.

Dimensions: Identity, Place, Capacity, Purpose

Knowledge

The factual, conceptual, or content-based understanding that contributes to who you are, what you can do, and how you connect.

Dimensions: English, Mathematics, Science, Social Sciences, Other knowledge domains

Competency

The various skills and capabilities that give your contributions the widest reach, depth, and impact.

Dimensions: Character, Citizenship, Collaboration, Communication, Creativity, Critical Thinking
